Positivity Pages
Positivity Pages Introduction
The Positivity Page
Living life positively is the theme of this column. It will focus on the positive aspects of life we tend to forget or take for granted. It will be an antidote to the almost total negativity of the news and media generally.
Being Positive and Making the Most of Life
The Positivity Page will be about celebrating life and all the good things that most of us, at least in the developed world, enjoy without thought. We need to become, as the Buddhists say, mindful of everything we do and experience. Whether the reader takes a spiritual view in that sense or not the Positivity Page will be about celebrating the often forgotten joys of a positive human spirit. Such an attitude can overcome remarkable difficulties in individual lives.
The Positivity Page is also about seeing the positive in everything. It may be accused of being Pollyannaish but why not? Positive, fun-loving, good-natured and happy people such as Pollyanna are a pleasure to be around. Grumpy negative people, like the doom-monger prophet, Jeremiah, see negativity and gloom everywhere. They suck the pleasure out of everything. Who would you invite to a party for a fun time: Pollyanna or Jeremiah?
A positive attitude might be uncomfortable as it challenges our favoured state of misery but only until we change. And we can; the writer was a grumpy old man and seriously unhappy. He has adopted a much more actively positive approach to life, as shown by the articles here on M-dash.co.uk. He feels healthier in both mind and body as a result. What is more he has not become push-over, he still complains about bad service but does so in a much more constructive and effective way. He gets less stressed and achieves better results - a win-win.
Bringing Optimism out of Pessimism
Pessimist can become optimists if the desire for change is there. The Positivity Page seeks to be the catalyst for such change. Optimists should enjoy The Positivity Page as a helpful counter-point to the grumpy person's enjoyment of a good rant that feeds their disgruntled state.
A Weekly Column Initially
The intention is to start this as a weekly column publishing first thing on Mondays to get the week off on a happy note. As soon as possible we will go twice weekly with a second column on a Friday lunchtime to help get readers in the right frame of mind to enjoy the weekend. If there is demand we will see about increasing frequency or adding a longer monthly article.
The Positiivity Page will seek to provide an optimistic takes on a mix of topical issues and the best aspects of life, even when facing difficulties.
Remember all the studies suggest that happy, optimistic people actually live longer, happier lives. For pessimists life just feels longer. So The Positivity Page just wants to spread a little happiness around, to make life just a little but nicer.
